Most articles about the ACCA changes tell you what the new qualification looks like. This one answers a different question, the one students actually lose sleep over: “How do I get from where I am today to the new structure without losing a single pass, an extra module, or a month of progress?”
At Abeel School of Accountancy, we have read ACCA’s official transition guidance line by line so you do not have to. Think of this post as a road map for the handover itself: the phases, the deadlines tucked away in the small print, and the exact way your current papers convert into the new ones.
The Transition in Three Phases
Phase 1: Finish under the old rules (now to June 2027). Your current exams run as normal. For Applied Skills students, June 2027 is the last sitting, and ACCA’s guidance says to complete all Applied Skills exams in or before the June 2027 session to complete the level under current requirements. The Law exam is a small exception: its on-demand variants can be taken slightly later, up to July 2027.
Phase 2: The handover (June to July 2027). After the June session, students move across to the redesigned qualification. In July 2027 the new Foundations and Knowledge exams open on demand, and the Essential Employability Modules become available. This is also when several quiet deadlines fall, which we cover below.
Phase 3: The new structure (September 2027 onward). The first Expertise and Strategic Professional exams take place in September 2027, with results released in October. From here on, everyone studies under the redesigned qualification, with credit for whatever they completed earlier.
How Your Old Papers Convert
ACCA’s official credit tables are simple once you see them side by side:
| If you have passed (old) | You receive credit for (new) |
|---|---|
| FA Financial Accounting | K1 Financial Accounting |
| MA Management Accounting | K2 Management Accounting |
| LW Corporate and Business Law | K3 Business Law |
| BT Business and Technology | Responsible Business Management module |
| TX Taxation | E1 Taxation |
| FR Financial Reporting | E2 Financial Reporting |
| AA Audit and Assurance | E3 Audit, Risk and Control |
| FM Financial Management | E4 Finance and Investment |
| PM Performance Management | E5 Performance with Data Analysis |
| SBR Strategic Business Reporting | S1 Business and Sustainability Reporting |
| SBL Strategic Business Leader | S2 Strategic Business Leader |
| AAA, AFM, ATX, or APM | An option: SAA, SCF, STA, or SPI |
Notice what is missing: nothing is lost. Every paper you have passed finds a home. The only genuinely new option is Data Science Professional, which has no old equivalent.
The Deadlines Hidden in the Small Print
The headline date everyone remembers is June 2027. But ACCA’s student guidance contains a second set of dates around mid July 2027, and they matter if you care about collecting your awards under the current rules:
- Foundations in Professionalism (FiP): complete it by mid July 2027 if you want the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business.
- Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM): complete it by mid July 2027 if you want credit for the new Strategic Professional employability module.
- Applied Skills exams: all done in or before June 2027 for the Advanced Diploma under current requirements.
ACCA notes that exact dates for some of these are still to be confirmed, so check your MyACCA account and ACCA’s student page before planning around a specific day.
The Three Modules and What They Cost You in Time
Under the old system, you completed one module, EPSM, which takes roughly 20 hours and costs approximately 83 pounds. The new qualification attaches an Essential Employability Module to each level, and ACCA’s guidance gives rough study times:
- Responsible Business Management at Knowledge level: about 60 hours.
- Digital Tech and Innovation at Expertise level: about 100 hours.
- Ethical, Sustainable Leadership at Strategic Professional level: about 70 hours.
These new modules are chargeable, with prices due to be confirmed in January 2027. Here is the part that turns strategy into savings. Passing BT earns credit for the Knowledge module. Completing every Applied Skills exam, including Law, before transition removes the Digital Tech and Innovation module. Completing EPSM before transition removes the Strategic Professional one. Each of these credits spares you a chargeable module, which is why finishing the right papers before the handover is worth planning for.
The Progression Rule You Cannot Skip
One rule is easy to overlook. In the redesigned qualification, students progress sequentially through the levels, and must enter all outstanding elements in their current level, including exams and the employability module, before moving to the next. Within a level, though, you can take the exams and the module in any order you prefer.
Practically, this means an unfinished module can block your entry to the next level’s exams. Digital Tech and Innovation, for instance, must be purchased before you can enter Strategic Professional exams. Build it into your plan early rather than discovering it at booking time.
What Does Not Change
Some things stay reassuringly the same. The Practical Experience Requirement is unchanged in 2027, so you still need 36 months of supervised experience and your performance objectives to become a member. The seven year rule for completing Strategic Professional after your first exam also stays. And to qualify as a member, you still need exams, employability modules, and PER together.
Why Study With Abeel School of Accountancy Through the Handover
A transition with this many moving parts rewards students who have structure. That is exactly why Abeel School of Accountancy builds its teaching around consistency, not just content.
We are the only institute conducting weekly live revision sessions. Where other providers rely on recorded lectures, every week our students join a live session focused on exam technique and active recall. Over a stretch of months where every sitting counts, that weekly rhythm keeps you sharp.
Our Smart Course Completion system is also exclusive to Abeel School of Accountancy. It tracks your real progress, flags weak papers early, and adjusts your plan so you finish the right papers before the deadlines above instead of guessing. No other ACCA training provider currently offers anything comparable.
Add small, mentor led batches and clear guidance on credit mapping, and you have a transition plan, not just a course.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is the final sitting of the current Applied Skills exams?
June 2027. ACCA’s guidance says to complete all Applied Skills exams in or before that session, with the on-demand Law variants allowed slightly later, up to July 2027.
Q2. Will my passed exams carry across?
Yes. Every current paper converts into credit for its equivalent in the redesigned qualification, so you will not resit anything you have already passed.
Q3. How do I avoid the new Digital Tech and Innovation module?
Complete every Applied Skills exam, including Law, before the transition. Students who do this are not required to take that module.
Q4. What happens if I have not passed Law when the transition happens?
You will need to enter K3 Business Law before, or at the same time as, entering any Expertise exam in the redesigned qualification.
Q5. Does the Practical Experience Requirement change in 2027?
No. The PER stays as it is for 2027, with 36 months of supervised experience and your performance objectives still required for membership.
Q6. What makes Abeel School of Accountancy different from other ACCA providers?
Abeel School of Accountancy is the only institute offering weekly live revision sessions combined with a Smart Course Completion tracking system, a combination not currently available anywhere else.
Final Thoughts
The handover looks complicated on paper, but the logic is kind: your passes carry across, the deadlines are knowable, and the modules you can avoid are the ones you can plan for. All it takes is a clear map and steady weekly progress. That is the philosophy Abeel School of Accountancy was built on.
