This is the question that worries students most, so let’s answer it straight away: yes, your passed ACCA exams still count. They aren’t wiped out or reset. ACCA maps eligible passes and exemptions into the redesigned qualification as credit.
That said, “they count” doesn’t mean “nothing needs planning.” A few papers, deadlines and modules can change what you have left to do. At Abeel School of Accountancy, this is the area where students most often feel lost, so we’ve laid it out step by step.
The Short Version
- Passed exams and exemptions are converted into credit in the new structure.
- Most current papers map to a specific new paper (for example, FA to K1).
- Some items need action before the 2027 changeover, notably LW, the full Applied Skills set and EPSM.
- Your PER and the seven-year rule carry on.
- ACCA’s official transition tool is the final authority on your own record.
Key Dates to Keep in Mind
According to OpenTuition’s transition guide, the changeover works like this:
- June 2027: the final session for current Applied Skills and Strategic Professional exams
- July 2027: new Knowledge exams and employability modules launch
- September 2027: first session for Expertise and the redesigned Strategic Professional exams
BPP and other providers give consistent advice: keep studying and don’t pause for the change. For the complete timeline, see our guide on when the new ACCA syllabus starts.
How Your Current Exams Map to the New Structure
Here’s the credit mapping as published by training providers based on ACCA’s guidance. Treat it as a planning guide and always confirm in ACCA’s tool.
| Current paper | New 2027 equivalent |
|---|---|
| FA (Financial Accounting) | K1 Financial Accounting |
| MA (Management Accounting) | K2 Management Accounting |
| LW (Corporate and Business Law) | K3 Business Law |
| BT (Business and Technology) | Credit for Responsible Business Management module |
| TX (Taxation) | E1 Taxation |
| FR (Financial Reporting) | E2 Financial Reporting |
| AA (Audit and Assurance) | E3 Audit, Risk and Control |
| FM (Financial Management) | E4 Finance and Investment |
| PM (Performance Management) | E5 Performance with Data Analysis |
| SBR | S1 Business and Sustainability Reporting |
| SBL | S2 Strategic Business Leader |
| AAA / AFM / APM / ATX | SAA / SCF / SPI / STA (Options) |
In plain English: if you’ve passed the paper, it has a home in the new structure.
Four Things That Can Change What You Have Left
1. Law (LW) moves to Knowledge level
LW becomes K3, and it also forms part of the complete Applied Skills set. Many students put Law off because it feels like a side paper, but it matters more under the transition. Put it in your plan early.
2. Finishing the full Applied Skills set earns extra credit
Completing PM, TX, FR, AA, FM and LW before the changeover gives you credit for the Digital Tech and Innovation employability module. It’s a small win that saves you extra work later.
3. EPSM has a cut-off
If you complete the Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM) by ACCA’s transition deadline, you get credit for the Ethical, Sustainable Leadership module. The exact mid-July 2027 date is still to be confirmed by ACCA, so don’t leave EPSM to the last minute.
4. You only need one Options exam
Under the redesigned Strategic Professional level, you need one Options paper, not two. A relevant Options pass you’ve already completed maps across. There’s also a brand new option, Data Science Professional, which has no current equivalent.
What Doesn’t Change
- PER: still 36 months of relevant experience plus performance objectives.
- The seven-year rule for Strategic Professional continues through the transition, so a pause isn’t a free pass.
- Entry requirements and exemptions for new students are unchanged, according to BPP.
A Realistic Example
Imagine you’ve passed BT, MA, FA, TX and FR, and you’re now working on AA. Your passes map into K1, K2, E1 and E2, while BT gives you the Responsible Business Management credit. If you then clear AA, FM, PM and LW before the changeover, you also earn the Digital Tech and Innovation credit. The sensible step is to plan your remaining papers, plus EPSM, against the June 2027 deadline, not to rush blindly.
Your own situation may differ because of variant papers or exemptions, so use ACCA’s official Transition Tool, or bring your record to the team at Abeel School of Accountancy and we’ll go through it with you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Do my passed ACCA exams still count in 2027?
Yes. ACCA converts eligible passes and exemptions into credit in the redesigned qualification, so you don’t start again.
2. Will I have to resit any exams?
Not for papers you’ve passed. Some modules, such as employability modules, may still need to be completed if credit conditions aren’t met.
3. What happens to BT?
A completed BT exam gives transition credit for the Knowledge-level Responsible Business Management module.
4. Why does LW matter so much for the transition?
Law moves to Knowledge level as K3, and it’s part of the full Applied Skills set that earns credit for Digital Tech and Innovation.
5. Do I need to finish EPSM before 2027?
Completing EPSM by ACCA’s transition cut-off gives credit for Ethical, Sustainable Leadership. The exact date is still to be confirmed, so aim to finish early.
6. Do I still need two Options papers?
No. The new Strategic Professional level needs just one Options exam, and a relevant existing pass maps across.
7. Do PER and the seven-year rule still apply?
Yes. PER remains 36 months plus performance objectives, and the seven-year rule continues through transition.
8. How can Abeel School of Accountancy help me check my credits?
